Women's Water Polo's Stamler Named CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week

March 17, 2008

BRIDGEPORT, PA - George Washington women's water polo sophomore Marissa Stamler was chosen the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Player of the Week Monday in leading the Colonials to three victories last week.

Stamler totaled 13 goals to spark the Colonials to three wins in four games at the Claremont Convergence in California over the weekend.

Stamler began the tournament with five goals, including the game-winner with 10 seconds left in the second sudden-death period, to lead GW past Fresno Pacific University, 11-10. She had one goal in a 6-5 loss to Whittier College before tallying three more in an 8-7 win over Occidental College and four in an 18-6 triumph versus Macalester College.

She netted a goal in GW's league loss against Maryland Wednesday to finish with 14 goals in five games and now leads the Colonials with 22 goals. GW has already eclipsed its win total from last year with seven victories through 16 games this season.
