Neel Bhattacharjee is in his second season as assistant coach for women's soccer at The George Washington University. Bhattacharjee (pronounced "BAT-uh-CHARGE-ee") is primarily responsible for goalkeeper instruction and serves as the recruiting coordinator for the program. Additionally, he assists in team training and administrative aspects for the women's soccer program.
During 2006 he was a member of the USA goalkeeping coaching staff for the Under-21 Women's National Team for their trip to England and Scotland. He is a Region I Olympic Development Program (ODP) goalkeeper coach, and previously worked with Region IV ODP. While living in Phoenix, AZ, he spent a year as an assistant coach for the Xavier College Preparatory girl's team. Additionally, Bhattacharjee worked with the AriZona Futbol Club and the Arizona girls Olympic Development Program as the head goalkeeper trainer for three years. Neel recently earned a United States Soccer Federation "B" License and also holds a USSF Goalkeeper License.
Neel currently works with the U-17 Potomac Cougars boys team, Maryland state finalists in 2007. Additionally, he is a staff coach for the Star Goalkeeper Academy, run by Dan Gaspar, and for SoccerPlus, the nation's largest goalkeeper camp, directed by Tony DiCicco, head coach of the 1999 USA Women's World Cup champions.
The Randolph, NJ, native earned two bachelor's degrees from the University of Maryland in 1998 and earned his master's degree from Texas State University in 2000. He has been pursuing a Ph.D. in geography at Arizona State University. He was the goalkeeper for both club soccer teams at Maryland and ASU.
Bhattacharjee and his wife, Merry, were married on December 31, 2005.
