Gymnastics Closes Out Regular Season At Towson Friday Night

WASHINGTON, DC - In it's final tuneup before the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championships, the George Washington gymnastics team closes out the regular season, Friday, March 21 at Towson at 7:00 pm. This will be the second meeting in four days between the regional rivals.
On Tuesday night, GW's `Senior Night' the Tigers recorded a season-high 194.850 to defeat the Colonials (192.800). Junior Erin Quigg tied the for individual title on vault with an 9.800, while senior McKenzie Parrack recorded a career-high 9.825 on floor, placing her second overall on the event in her final home meet. Also competing in their final appearance, senior Carolyn Marckesano posted identical 9.775s on vault and floor, while fellow senior Gillian Coleman tied Marckesano's mark on floor, and posted a 9.675 on bars. Freshman Leslie Delima recorded a 38.375 in the all-around, with a season-high 9.725 on bars.
Despite GW's third best score of the season, Towson recorded its best mark in several years to record the victory. Junior Annukka Almenoksa had an outstanding meet for the Tigers as she tied the school record with a 9.925 score on the balance beam. Almenoksa also had career highs on bars (9.775), floor exercise (9.85) and all-around (39.325). In the win at GW, she finished first on beam, floor and all-around. Senior Decilia Willacy also had a big meet at GW, finishing second in the all-around with a 38.975 score while placing second on bars (9.80) and floor (9.825). Senior Cristina Lindo took first place on bars (9.825).
Following the meet at Towson, the Colonials will head to Morgantown, WV for the EAGL Championships Saturday, March 29 at the WVU Coliseum, on the campus of West Virginia University.
The conference championships will be the final opportunity for GW to boost its Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) into the top 36 in the nation to qualify for NCAA Regionals. The RQS is based on a team's six best regular-season-meet scores, of which three must be away. To obtain the regional qualifying score (RQS), the high score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged.
