MIDDLETOWN, CT - George Washington men's squash earned a victory over No. 28 Wesleyan on Sunday as the Colonials competed in the Wesleyan Round Robin Tournament in Middletown, CT.
The Colonials defeated the host-school Cardinals by a score of 7-2 for their only victory of the weekend. In the contest, GW dropped ttwo of the first three individual matches before reeling off six straight wins, starting with No. 4 Alex Funk (New York, NY/Kent School), who won 9-5, 9-1, 9-2. The senior was one of three winners in straight sets, along with sophomore Max Collins (Bronxville, NY/Bronxville) and Peter Creech (Nantucket, MA/Westminster School). Creech, playing from the No. 9 spot, was also the only GW player to win his match in all three team matches.
In their first match of the tournament, GW fell to No. 17 Saint Lawrence on Saturday, 8-1. The Colonials' second loss came on Sunday as they fell 6-3 against No. 22 Connecticut College.
The Colonials are now 6-3 on the season.
George Washington will take off time for final exams and winter break and then return to action on January 16, when they travel to Navy for a match held at 5:00 p.m.
