James Sands is in his first season serving as the men's rowing assistant coach at the George Washington University. Sands comes to the District by way of Madison, WI, where he rowed for the Wisconsin Badgers for four seasons as a coxswain and an oarsman, where he was a member of several Midwest Championship winning boats.
As a coxswain in his Florida high school, Sands led several Florida Scholastic Championship winning crews, one of which eventually went on to win bronze at the Scholastic National Championships.
Sands graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in political science in 2007.
Sands resides in Washington, DC.
