Golf's Johnson, McMahon Named to Cleveland Golf Div. I All-America Scholars Team

NORMAN, OK -- George Washington seniors Tim Johnson and Conor McMahon have been named to the Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced on July 9. Johnson and McMahon were two of just 96 Division I golfers recognized nationwide.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and competed in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
The only previous Colonials to be named to the team are Thomas Blankvoort (`02), Brian Carroll (`06) and Andrew Gallo (`06). Blankvoort earned the honor in 2001 and `02 while Carroll and Gallo were recognized in both 2005 and `06.
Johnson, the Colonials' co-captain, competed in 12 tournaments during the 2007-08 season, with a pair of top-10 finishes and a top-20 finish. He was fourth on the squad with a 75.5 stroke average over 28.5 rounds. He twice shot season-low rounds of 70 in the Rehoboth Beach Invitational and at the Penn-Big 5 Classic. Johnson also was one of two golf representatives on GW's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).
The Colonials' other co-captain, McMahon also posted a 75.5 stroke average (tied with Johnson) after competing in 12 tournaments (28.5 rounds). He tied for fourth place (of 77) at the Princeton Invitational and added three other Top-20 finishes this past season. He shot his low round of the year (a 69) at the Notre Dame Irish Invitational last Spring where he tied for 12th among 59 individuals.
