WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington freshman pitcher Eric Cantrell (Oakton, VA/Oakton) was awarded with the Northeast Region Performance of the Week by InsidePitching.com, it was announced on Tuesday.
Each week, InsidePitching.com awards the performances and accomplishments of five pitchers around the country. After being nominated as one of the three best pitching performances for the week, a panel of 30 NCAA Division I coaches around the nation are pooled for voting.
Cantrell, who was making just his third collegiate start, pitched seven innings of four-hit ball and helped to give GW an 8-1 win at Lehigh Sunday afternoon. The right-handed Cantrell allowed just one unearned run while recording eight strikeouts as he improved to 2-1. He did not surrender a single walk in the victory.
Cantrell, who leads the team with 20 strikeouts, in just 17.1 innings pitched, is scheduled to make his next start Saturday, Mar. 22, against Saint Joseph's in an Atlantic 10 Conference game, played at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.
