GW Splits Home Swim Meet Against La Salle

WASHINGTON, DC - In its first home meet of the season Saturday at the Charles E. Smith Center Pool, the George Washington University women's swimming and diving team defeated La Salle University 130.50-110.50. The men's squad dropped its meeting with the Explorers 159.50-81.50.

Colonial diver Katura Horton-Perinchief (Sandys, Bermuda / University of Texas) easily took first place in the one-meter and three-meter diving events. She won the one-meter dive by 45.68 points, totaling 253.73 points.

Horton-Perinchief posted 298.43 points in the three-meter dive, winning the event by 84.15 points. She also qualified for Zones in the 3-meters, a prequalification meet for the NCAA's held after the Atlantic 10 Championships in February.

The GW women recorded six individual and two relay first place finishes in the victory. Both junior Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN / North Central) and senior Kirsten Rasmuson (San Diego, CA / Mt. Carmel) each won two races.

Moss took first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.48) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.90), while Rasmuson won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.32) and the 50-yard freestyle (25.49 seconds).

Junior Caitlin Hyde (Fairless Hills, PA / Bensalem) grabbed first place in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.95) and junior Christina Boland's (Purcelville, VA / Loudon Valley) time of 1:57.52 in the 200-yard freestyle was tops in the event.

In the relay events, the GW women took the 400-yard medley with a time of 3:59.47 and the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:43.05).

The men's team won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:34.90. Individually, Colonials' sophomore Jonathan Sabin (Fairfield, CT / Fairfield) won the 200-yard backstroke, recording a time of 1:54.55.

Junior Mark Adam (Millersville, MD / Severna Park) also notched a first place finish with a time of 2:09.17 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

 

 

The GW men's team returns to action Wednesday when they travel to Annapolis, MD to face Navy at 5:00 p.m. Both the men and women return home Saturday to battle East Carolina at 2:00 p.m.
